LIAT COMMENDS GUYANA POLICE

Barbados, Bridgetown, 31 October, 2007 - LIAT is full of praise for the swift action of Guyana law enforcement officials, after their recent interception of a shipment of ammunition and drugs at the Cheddi International airport. The discovery was made prior to the departure of a flight bound for Barbados.

LIAT's Chief Executive Officer, Mark Darby has noted that, "Given the nature of the industry we are dependent on the services of the constabulary to secure the safety of the aircraft and its passengers and we work in tandem with airport authorities to ensure that the laws are upheld. The outstanding work of the Guyanese police service in averting a potentially threatening situation is to be complimented."

Recently, LIAT has been closely scrutinising baggage policies and has been reinforcing its free luggage allotment of 50 pounds per person. The airline is also working on new measures to improve its handling of overweight baggage.
